A "Big Boy Bike"

Sam loved loved LOVED riding his bicycle! That love began at a very young age. He always enjoyed riding his trike, but when he got a "big boy bike right after he turned 3,... well, it was love at first sight!! These pictures of Sam and his Daddy bring back special memories of a little guy learning a new skill and finding joy in the milestones of childhood! These were taken on New Year's Day, 2002. Sam had just turned 3 less than a month earlier. It was a beautiful, sunny day that just begged you to enjoy time outdoors. That was just fine for this little boy, who was anxious to learn how to ride his new bike. He and his daddy must have made the trek back and forth, between our drive and the corner (two houses away) at least a dozen times! Over and over and over again! But, oh, the pride on my little man's face when he figured it all out!! "I got it!!" I can still hear him exclaiming in an excitement that only a little boy can express! This was to be just the beginning of an activity that would fill many hours of his time and take him on numerous grand adventures.

Can you see the pride? Well, maybe smug satisfaction would describe it better? That was my little man!!
